8 week Mind Body Skills Group - Ushers Syndrome or RP

Please note that only the January 30, 2025 8 week session will have ASL interpreters available on screen.  All groups welcome those that are able to benefit from sound, and can express themselves with voice. I do provide live captions, and am open to discussing any needs you may have. 

The group format is structured, so that only one person speaks at a time. Is Confidential group, and is for you to work with your onw stuff.  If people want to ask questions or share resources, they can sign on 15 minutes early before our group for that. 

 This is the registration for the 8-week mind body skills group for those with vision & hearing loss.These groups are offered to introduce you to ways that you can find ways to express safely all those feelings that come with living life.

This is not therapy or medical treatment.

You agree to safeguard your body while doing suggested exercises. 

You agree to the group guidelines: 

Confidentiality, do not share others' stories, no recording, use of headphones if others could hear or attend group meeting in a public place. 

Show up willing to participate in exercises and share your experience authentically.

Promise to show respect to others by refraining from fixing or advising.

A commitment to punctual attendance of all 8 online group sessions. If an unexpected conflict arises and you will be late or miss a session, please contact me by phone or email. (I accept that you might need to miss one, just let me know).

Your zoom link with be sent prior to the meeting, likely the day before. 

Please plan to have a notebook, 6 sheets of blank paper, and your choice of crayons, colored pencils, or markers.  If vision is an issue, you can use clay or just your imagination, cork board with tacks, or wiki sticks.

You can help your body get breaks from chronic stress? You wish you had a place to share your journey with others who get your “kind of blindness” without reacting. 

This 8-week course is modeled after Dr. Jim Gordon MD scientifically researched and published methods that draw from many different practices from all over the world.  Mindfulness is part of the lineup, but so much more.

Different techniques are taught and practiced each week, including soft belly breathing, guided imageries, meditation, mindful eating & nutrition, biofeedback - Autogenics, drawing, writing, Movement & Exercise. Some are ancient and others are modern practices from many different places inthe world.

Led by Deb Marinos, MS CRC LPC (Oregon) CMBM Certified Mind-Body Skills Group Facilitator is legally blind from retinitis pigmentosa and has provided informative and engaging training for the past 20 years to electricians, people with disabilities & healthcare providers. Her experiences in a nontraditional career path allow her to be more open & sensitive to others' needs for inclusion, regardless of their uniqueness.
